Biography

Alexia Norris lives in the 30th Legislative District in Kansas City with her husband Nathan. Lexi and Nathan are both practicing attorneys. Born and raised in Weston, Lexi grew up on a farm that has been recognized as a Missouri Century Farm for being owned by members of her family for over 100 years. Her parents, Jo and Gary Norris, both former educators still live on the farm in Weston and raise Texas Longhorn cattle. Gary also owns and operates a small business. Lexi has one sister, Samantha Kinslow, a physical therapist, who owns and manages a chiropractic and physical therapy clinic in Weston with her husband, Dr. Chris Kinslow, DC, PT.

Lexi attended West Platte R-II School District from kindergarten through high school and graduated as Valedictorian of her senior class in 1999. Lexi first recognized the value of public service while volunteering for Meg Harding’s 1998 campaign for State Representative in the 30th Legislative District and through her work with both Community 2000 and Youth With Vision. Both of the organizations work to prevent drug and alcohol use and abuse among minors. As a member of these organizations, Lexi traveled to Jefferson City to meet with state legislators to advocate for measures that would limit teenagers’ accessibility of alcohol. Lexi was inspired by Meg and other legislators she worked with in Jefferson City and knew that some day she would run for office. At the Weston Christian Church, where Lexi is a member, she served as a Sunday School teacher and as a Youth Deacon. She also spent two summers as a volunteer staff member for Young Life camps in Minnesota and Colorado. Her work in the community led to her selection as a Youth Leadership Delegate for the Northland Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Following high school, Lexi attended the University of Missouri in Columbia. Lexi also enjoyed serving as an intern in Washington, D.C., where she worked for Senator Jean Carnahan. She assisted Senator Carnahan and her staff by responding to constituent concerns and researching agricultural, environmental and education policy issues. Lexi graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and was selected as a member of Phi Beta Kappa at graduation. She remained at the University of Missouri in Columbia to pursue a law degree, which she was selected to the Order of the Coif.

During law school, Lexi spent two sessions working as a legal intern for members of the Missouri State House of Representatives, where she assisted with researching and drafting legislation that would protect victims of violent crimes. She also worked on legislation to establish the 21st Century Scholars Program, which would guarantee college scholarships to low-income students who met academic requirements and remained alcohol and drug free. This experience reinforced Lexi’s belief that lawmakers must prioritize funding for higher education so that cost is not a hindrance to those who desire to further their education. She also learned to value the importance of working across the aisle and prioritizing the interests of Missouri citizens rather than encouraging partisan politics.

After law school, Lexi returned to the Kansas City area to be near her family and begin her legal career. She joined the King Hershey, PC law firm and focused her practice on real estate development and municipal law. In this capacity, Lexi worked with a number of small and large business clients in developing projects, often through the formation of public-private partnerships, that led to increased numbers of jobs and tax revenue for their local communities. She continues to practice in the Kansas City area, focusing on small business and corporate matters. Lexi is licensed to practice law in both Missouri and Kansas and is a member of the Missouri Bar Association and the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association.

In addition to her legal work, Lexi is active in the community. Lexi volunteers as a mentor for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kansas City and is a volunteer attorney for Legal Aid of Western Missouri. She is member of the Platte County Citizens Coalition, a Board Member for the Mizzou Alumni Association – Kansas City Chapter, a Board member for the Northland Animal Welfare Society, and an Executive Committee member for the University of Missouri’s Griffiths Leadership Society. In their free time, Lexi and Nathan enjoy spending time with their families, attending Mizzou sporting events and Royals and Chiefs games, and spending time outdoors with their dog, Scout.

Lexi is prepared to represent the people of the 30th House District, where she got her start in public service. Lexi’s background as an attorney and her community involvement has made her aware of the issues facing citizens in her district. Lexi is committed to developing practical, efficient solutions to those problems. As your State Representative, Lexi will hit the ground running on a number of issues important to the district, including: supporting public education from kindergarten through higher education, technical training, encouraging economic development and job growth, and increasing access to affordable and quality healthcare.
